In this article we share our visit experience of "Akka Tangi Kola" ( meaning Elder Sister , Younger Sister ponds ) at Melukote , a town in Mandya district which attracts with its serene beauty and historic spots - 150 kms from Bangalore.
This spot is between the Melukote CheluvaNarayana Swamy temple and Raya Gopura . These two beautiful twin tanks are described as Sister Ponds. As per the traditional account of this spot, when one of the sister wanted to create this pond , the other sister accepted unwillingly. Hence there's a belief the pond which the earlier sister created has crystal clear water safe for drinking purposes , while the other pond is little slushy and used for washing clothes and other activities. The exact period when these ponds were created are not known but looking at the surrounding it seems to be existing for hundreds of years.
