In this post we share our visit experience to Thippagondanahalli Lake , Magadi Taluk about 60 kms from Bengaluru city.
- Arkavathy river has a history of being one of the important rivers supplying drinking water to major parts of Bangalore.
- Originating near Nandi Hills , it passes through briefly along Ramanagara district , Kanakapura joining Sangama near Mekedaatu
- It has been a major source for many farming activities along its basin
- A dam was constructed in the early 1930s during the period of Sri Sir M Visveshwaraya who had engineered the dam , popularly known as Thippagondanahalli Reservoir serving as backup water source
- Due to less rains in later years at this region , the dam usage slowly deteriorated . Recently its being renovated.
Our team recently explored this spot . Due to renovation of dam and pandemic ,we were not allowed to enter inside the dam campus due to safety reasons . We explored the nearby amazing river basins . Following the trail roads leading to the river from Magadi river we reached the spot about 1.5 kms from magadi main road.
Spot offers a relaxing experience , we spotted few coracles which indicated fishing activities . Due to pandemic may be visitors were quite less , few had come for picnic. Our team enjoyed the cool breeze and river waters. Although there is no specific restriction on swimming at this spot , it is advised to be cautious as swirls may be spotted.
A nice spot to visit along with friends and family for a picnic on a weekend . There are no shops nearby , so its advised to carry some food stuffs to enjoy at the spot. Best time to visit is during day before 5 PM . As there are no proper roads and only trails , two wheeler are ideal. Although cars may pass through , its advised to take a 4x4 to easily pass through these roads.
Do visit this spot and share us your experience.
