Our Indian Ministry of Labor and Employment (MoLE) has the responsibility to protect and safeguard the interests of workers in general and those who constitute the poor , deprived and disadvantage sections of the society , creating a healthy work environment for higher production and productivity.
MoLE has developed a web portal with an objective of creating a national database of unorganized workers. Unorganized sector comprises of establishment/ units which are engaged in the production/ sale of goods/ services and employs less than 10 workers. These units are not covered under Insurance ESIC & Provident fund EPFO bodies.

Benefits of e-SHRAM
Central Government has developed e-SHRAM portal which will be a centralized database of unorganized workers seeded with Aadhaar. After registering, he/she will get an Accidental Insurance cover of 2 Lacs under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bheema Yojana. All the social security benefits of unorganized workers will be delivered through this portal. In emergency and national pandemic like situations, this database may be utilized to provide necessary assistance to the eligible unorganized workers.
Objectives of e-SHRAM
- Creation of a centralized database of all unorganized workers (UWs) including Construction Workers, Migrant Workers, Gig and Platform workers, Street Vendors, Domestic Workers, Agriculture Workers, etc., to be seeded with Aadhaar.
- To improve the implementation efficiency of the social security services for the unorganized workers.(ii) Integration of Social Security Schemes meant for UWs being administered by MoLE and subsequently those run by other ministries as well.
- Sharing of information in respect of registered unorganized workers with various stakeholders such as Ministries/ Departments/ Boards/ Agencies/ Organizations of the Central & State Governments through APIs for delivery of various social security and welfare schemes being administered by them.
- Portability of the social security and welfare benefits to the migrant and construction workers.
- Providing a comprehensive database to Central and State Governments for tackling any National Crises like COVID-19 in future.
Registration Eligibility
- Any worker who is a home based-worker, self-employed worker or a wage worker in the unorganized sector including a worker in the organized sector who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO or not a Govt. employee
- Age should be between 16-59 years
- A valid savings bank account.
How to self register
- Registration is free.
- Open website link - https://register.eshram.gov.in
- Enter the Aadhaar number , captcha code , select whether EPFO / ESIC applicable
- On submitting the request a one time password will be sent as SMS to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar
- Enter the OTP , Enter the bank account and IFSC code details if prompted.
- On successful registration a Unique Account Number (UAN) which is a permanent number valid for lifetime , will be sent as SMS to the registered mobile number.
- Post registration , member will be automatically enrolled enrolled under PMSBY and premium for the first year will be borne by the ministry
How to raise any grievance
- Login to website - http://gms.eshram.gov.in
- If registered as member in e-SHRAM portal , login with details . There are options to raise as individual even if not a member of the e-SHRAM portal
- Select the Common Service Centre Scheme (CSC) center , provide contact details , load relevant information and submit the request
- A unique grievance reference ID gets generated , status of which can be tracked on the portal either by entering this reference number or mobile number
