Matinee revolves around a group of childhood friends who reunite after several years. Aruna (played by Sathish Ninasam), grieving the loss of his mother, lives a secluded life. His old friends—Jaydev, Nixon, Anand, and Naveena—reunite with him, unaware that they harbor a secret desire: for Aruna to sell his house so that they can get a share of the money from the sale. Desperate, they hatch a plan to scare Aruna into selling, resorting to elaborate ghost pranks. However, their scheme backfires, and they might just be the ones spooked by the end. Meanwhile, a mother files a complaint with the police to find her missing daughter, Chitra (played by Aditi Prabhudeva).
Debutante director Manohar Kaampalli takes on the challenge of blending horror, comedy, romance, and friendship. His honest attempt results in an engaging narrative that keeps the audience intrigued.
